Watched the first part but I can't say I recall the film. I know that a good JW would not have watched it with all those "Long Haired" hippy types and those girls short dresses. Brings back good memories when I was in high school.....

Thinking back I always had doubts about the existence of Jesus but the fallacy argument was always, "You have to have faith". I can have faith that the moon is made of green cheese but it doesn't make it so. Good video.

The only thing missing is a date and I would think that is the next move. The GB will probably start off by hinting toward a date like they did with 1975 in the late 50's to mid 60's. They will not make it too far off as then the urgnecy will not be there. My guess is when the GB sets a new date it will be something around 5 to 10 years in the future. Which of course after the fact they will deny they actuall said it.

My memory of the 1975 fiasco (born in 1970)
by Lady Zombie indrew sagan posted this fine thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/160876/1.ashx in which a few people remarked that hardly anyone under the age of 40 even knows about the 1975 failed prediction.. i was born in 1970 and i do remember the 1975 fiasco.
for what it's worth, here are my memories and how it was explained to me.. late in 1968 my parents decided to have me because, like many other jws, they thought that i would never have to deal with the world or go to school.
they carefully planned to have me during the year of 1970 because they didn't want to go through armagedon with an infant, so they figured if i was 5 years old, i would be old enough to run, feed myself, and at least know enough to take shelter from the elements or hide.

I remember this all too well as I was a young adult at the time. I recall having a bible study with a good "JW" fellow that at the beginning of every bible study he would look at me and ask me "When are you going to get baptised?" He would go on to say, "Do you think you are going to finish school in this system of things?" The time is too short, forget about a good education or career in this system, my duty was to go out and preach before this system ends. As a young impressionable adult at the time I had a lot of what you called "cognitive dissonance". I now only wish I didn't listen to all the BS and put myself first by getting a good education. I can't change that now so I have learned to get past that and enjoy my life as it is. A foot note to the good JW fellow that studied with me, after 1975 he fell out of the cult and it was found out later that he molested his own daughters....Some good Christian eh.

This sounds like the experiences I had as a young child. My first memories was my mother and grandmother reading stories from the old Paradise book. Even as a young child I thought the stories were far fetched to imagine an all seeing divine God but questioning this was strongly discouraged.

Most people who are not JW's live with out moral restrain! All who have left the "Truth" regret it. June 15th WT
by life is to short inin the june 15th wt it says on page 9 i will just write it out as it is to hard and unbelievable to preface this.
so here it is.. "many who today are members of the christian congregation can tell you that before learning of and adopting jehovah's righteous standards, they lived without moral restrain.
yet, they were unsatisfied and unhappy.

So there you have it those of us who do not believe anymore are just screwed up and very unhappy in life. We are out sleeping with everyone and just living a totally horrible life.
Darn I wished that was me....

Lovers who need a Holiday
by YoursChelbie ini think there's a song somewhere that mentions that sometimes lovers need a holiday, time away from each other.. does it help two people to see things more clearly when they spend some time away?
has it helped you ?.
after the dust settles, you either move on and forget all about them or you gain a different perspective on the whole relationship.

Distance makes the heart grow fonder so they say. It is good to give the other person their space.
I just recently went through a painful breakup myself. I am just starting to get over her but I still sometimes catch myself thinking about her.
The funny thing is I don't hate her only what she did. I do wish her well....

Self esteem ....
by Frequent_Fader_Miles indoes it play a role in choosing one's partner or significant other?
.
do you believe that someone with low (or high) self esteem would deliberately choose someone in that very category because it made them feel more comfortable?.

Well put R. Crusoe,
Unless both are putting something into the relationship, it won't work out no matter how much you may have in common. What I read about the flirtatious person is that they have a self esteem issue. It is very hard on the other partner feeling that he/she are inadequate when in reality this may not be the case. The grass is always greener on the other side. I quite playing those games when I was 16 because you are never going to be the best looking, smartest or riches person. So you are only trying to match up to some set standard or expectations that someone else has set.Does this all sounds too familiar? We can only be better than we were not better than what someone else is...

I have comment here but I am not sure if this is where I should vent this or start a new post. I was raised as a JW and I have been away from it for a number of years now. I am still finding I have problems with self esteem as growing up as a JW we were ingrained to have such low self esteem and being too introverted. This is coming as a problem with myself to maintain relationships as I still come off as wanting to please too much and scaring off any potential mate. I also find it difficult to socialize with others in large groups. I have read lots of self help books etc.. and hopefully I will improve in this area. Just wondering if others on here have had the same problems?
